Target Market
METABO will develop a platform for diabetic patients monitoring, algorithms for the modelling of the glucose metabolism process of individual patients and side products to enable integration of different devices in a technology monitoring environment.
Users of METABO outcomes will be patients and health professionals. Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease affecting a large segment of world’s population. In 2007, the International Diabetes Federation estimated that approximately 246 million people worldwide have diabetes. By 2025 this figure is expected to rise to 333 million, amounting to 6.3% of the world’s population. IDF estimates that in year 2005 approximately 25 million people suffered from diabetes in the 25 member states of the European Union. Estimates for the region for 2025 are likely to increase and reach nearly 30 million. Furthermore, it is estimated that up to 50 % of people with diabetes are undiagnosed or are unaware of their condition. Type 1 diabetes affected in 2003 430.000 children worldwide and more than 86.000 in Europe, with an increase yearly ratio of 3%.
Prospect target market of METABO is constituted by
- Medical devices and equipment industry, interested in offering innovative, effective and accepted monitoring and treatment devices and tools and integrated solutions to support patients in self managing diabetes in their daily life;
- Local social authorities and local administrations, aiming to improve their care provision processes, reduce care delivery costs and optimize resources by providing appropriate, timely and adequate treatments to diabetic patients and to set-up prevention actions;
- Healthcare territorial organizations, aiming at introducing proactive strategies to decrease the impact of chronic diseases;
- Third parties related to the ICT systems and tools for health, wanting to offer added-value to their customers.
